This year’s version of the annual Winter Jewish Music Concert at Temple Israel of Greater Miami was the program’s best in its four years of existence.

The Winter Jewish Music Concert was a glorious evening of singing and playing attended by an overflow audience of 720, with hundreds more viewing the live internet stream from their homes. Anadditional 200 names were on a Waiting List to attend the concert, which was sold out late in December. The annual concert, noted as one of the finest, if not the finest of its sort in the country, is recognized for its varied and diverse repertoire, contrasting musical styles, and brilliant execution by two dozen of the finest Jewish singers and instrumentalists throughout the state and from outside of Florida. The annual concert, begun in 2009 in celebration of my 18 years of service at Temple Israel, is now recognized and promoted nationally, without our solicitation or expense, and was promoted this year by the Miami Herald (who had a photographer in the Bertha Abess Sanctuary the entire evening), the Knight Arts Foundation (which annually gives out $20 million in grant money), WLRN radio (which played a two minute interview with me four times during morning and afternoon rush hour), the Union for Reform Judaism, the Jewish Journal, and temple websites and bulletins from each synagogue the performers came from. It is not too soon to mark your calendars for next year’s concert on Saturday, January 19, 2013, and please take to heart our communicating that the concert will be sold out weeks ahead of time.

Brazil, England, Canada, California, Texas, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and beyond. These are some of the locations where tickets are being purchased online for the Winter Jewish Music Concert on January 14 at 8pm. We are anticipating the usual overflow audience of 700, as has been the norm since the (previously named) Annual South Florida Cantorial Concert began in 2009. Tickets are snatched up as the online site receives orders, without regard to who the purchaser is. Congregants and friends of the performers do not receive the courtesy of tickets being made available especially for them, so it is important that you visit the sites where tickets are available (listed below), and purchase your tickets early.
