Civil rights groups, including LGBTQ advocacy group Equality Florida, joined the National Center for Lesbian Rights and families in Florida in filing a federal lawsuit suit against the state of Florida as a response to the Parents Right in Education Bill. It’s the law opponents call “Don’t Say Gay.” Among the individual plaintiffs are Rabbi Amy L. Morrison and her partner Dr. Cecile Houry.
Temple Israel has a long history of Rabbis who used their voices for social justice. In the spirit of beloved Rabbis Joseph R. Narot and Steven B. Jacobs, we applaud and support Rabbi Morrison for using her voice to stand up for our children and families. In the official press release yesterday, “As a Rabbi, I teach that all individuals should be celebrated for who they are and that we have a moral and religious obligation to protect the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Rabbi Amy Morrison. “This bill flies in the face of those biblical teachings, threatening the well-being and safety of Florida’s children.”

“…morally speaking, there is no limit to the concern one must feel for the suffering of human beings, that indifference to evil is worse than evil itself, that  in a free society, some are guilty, but all are responsible.”
